Scope and Field of Measurement - Focus on Microfluidic Control Technology

The scope of measurement, in a relatively long historical period, is mainly a measurement test of various physical quantities. With the advancement of science and technology, economic and social development, measurement has broken through the scope of the traditional physical quantity, extended to the measurement of chemical quantities and engineering quantities. In recent years, the development of metrology has become even faster, and it even includes measurement tests such as physiological and psychological measures. Therefore, it can be said that all measurable measurement tests are within the scope of measurement. The scientific fields involved in measurement have expanded from natural sciences to social sciences.
At present, the relatively mature and widely-developed metrology science and technology fields include geometric quantities (also known as length), thermal engineering, mechanics, electromagnetics, radio, time frequency, acoustics, optics, chemistry, and ionizing radiation, the so-called "ten metrology."
In addition, with the development of modern science and technology, some new measurement fields, such as bio-engineering, environmental protection engineering, and navigation and flight engineering, are also gradually taking shape.
The above-mentioned division of metrology technology is relative and there are no strict regulations. For example, countries that combine electromagnetism (mainly concerning DC and low-frequency electromagnetic quantity measurement tests) with radios are called “electricity”, and some countries collectively refer to electromagnetic, radio, and time and frequency as “electricity measurement.” In addition, each measurement field is not isolated, but is connected and interacts with each other. Many actual measurement and testing problems may involve two or more measurement fields.
