Classification of flanged metal joints - focus on microfluidic control technology
According to different criteria, bolted flange metal joints have more classification methods. According to the different sealing principle, the bolt flange connection can be divided into two types: floating type and metal contact type bolt flange connection. The typical structure is shown in the figure below.
For floating flange metal joints, bolt loads are all borne by the gasket seal ring. Common interactive gaskets include: non-metallic gaskets, such as Teflon gaskets, rubber gaskets, non-asbestos avant-garde rubber gaskets, etc. Semi-metal gaskets, such as metal wound mats, metal-clad mats, flexible graphite composite gaskets, etc.; metal gaskets, such as metal flat mats, toothed mats, elliptical mats, octagonal mats, etc.
For metal-to-metal contact flange metal joints, the bolt load portion is carried by the gasket seal ring. This is because there is a compression limiting device between the two flange faces, which acts as a stopper. The device may be part of a gasket or a separate component. When the gasket is compressed to a specified thickness, the continued application of the load will be borne by the compression limiting device to ensure optimal sealing of the flanged metal joint.
There are two main types of metal contact types for bolted flange metal joints: one is the contact between the upper and lower flange seal faces; the other is the contact between the flange seal end face and the metal outer ring of the seal gasket.
