Time Comparison of Ultrasonic Flow Meters and Mass Flow Meters - Focus on Microfluidic Control Technology

Time difference ultrasonic flowmeter and mass flowmeter field comparison:

1) In general, other flow meters are rarely used to verify the accuracy of mass flow meters because mass flow meters (herein referred to as the Coriolis force principle) are a type of flow meter with a high level of accuracy, and the accuracy of liquids can be measured. To reach 0.15-0.2%, as long as the installation is reasonable (the sensor is not subject to additional stress), the zero point is stable, and its indication accuracy is credible. Ultrasonic flowmeters generally have lower accuracy levels than this, and better accuracy is between 0.5% and 1%. Therefore, in the actual operation, the mass flow meter can be used as a standard meter.
2) The mass flow meter is a meter that does not require straight forward and backward pipe sections, so most of these flow meters are installed in pipe locations that do not have straight pipe sections. When the ultrasonic flow meter and the mass flow meter are connected in series, it is not easy to find the length of the straight pipe section that is in conformity with the requirements before and after the mass flow meter. The ultrasonic flowmeter must have a straight pipe section, otherwise the error is large.
3) Mass flowmeter has a big disadvantage, that is, its zero stability is a poor one, so the technical specifications require regular zero check and zero adjustment, if the zero instability will affect the flow indication. Therefore, when comparing an ultrasonic flow meter with a mass flow meter, check the mass flow meter zero point or zero calibration first.
4) The mass flowmeter also has a more stringent requirement that the flowmeter does not allow any external stress to act on it (mostly the additional external stress caused by unreasonable installation), otherwise not only the zero point can not be adjusted well, but the measurement will appear larger error. If the process piping reserves the installation port and then installs the flow meter, it will stress the flow meter in most cases. If the flowmeter, the flange, and the front and rear pipes are welded in advance, such installation is a correct installation without stress.
5) In high flow applications, the mass flow meter does not affect the accuracy due to the measurement quality, but the ultrasonic flow meter measures the volume flow and the influence will be large.
6) In actual use, the mass flowmeter will cost more than the ultrasonic flowmeter, especially in the large-diameter measurement, the ultrasonic flowmeter is superior to the mass flowmeter.
