Description of the characteristics of the lever float steam trap
The trap is selected and the appropriate trap is installed. As long as steam passes through, there is no freezing problem. However, if the steam is broken, the steam condensate will create a vacuum in the heat exchanger or the associated pipe. This will prevent condensate from escaping freely from the system before freezing occurs. Therefore, a vacuum breaker is installed between the discharged equipment and the trap. If gravity is not used from the trap to the return pipe, the trap and drain should be drained manually or automatically using a drain with antifreeze. Also, when multiple traps are installed together in the trap station, keeping the trap warm can prevent freezing.
Antifreeze measures are:
1. The size of the trap should not be too large.
2. Keep the trap discharge line as short as possible.
3. Tilt the trap discharge line down to speed up gravity discharge.
4. The steam trap discharge line and the condensate return line are insulated.
5. When the condensate return line is exposed to atmospheric conditions, consider adding a heat tracing tube.
6. If the return pipe rises, the vertical discharge pipe should be adjacent to the discharge pipe at the upper part of the return header, and the discharge pipe and the trap discharge pipe are kept together.
