The history of Allen Manufacturing Company and the rise of the world famous "Allen Wrench". In 1910, William G. ALLEN showed in the advertisement (pictured right) a patent for a cold drawing process for making hexagon socket screws. These safety screws avoid the typical square head projections that are common to fasteners at the time. With this new design, workers' clothes are less likely to be caught by machines and cause accidents.
